Meta Events Manager throws a lot of warnings at you, and most media buyers learn to tune them all out — which means they miss the few that actually matter. Here are the five signals worth acting on, and what each is really telling you.
1. Events received (and last-received time)
The most important signal, and the simplest. Are events still arriving, and how recently? A stale “last received” timestamp means your pixel or CAPI stopped sending — the single clearest sign something broke. Check this first, every time.
2. Event Match Quality (EMQ)
Meta's 0–10 score for how well your events match to real people. A low or fallingEMQ means Meta can't attribute your conversions well, which weakens optimization. A sudden drop usually means a change stopped sending customer parameters. See what makes a good EMQ score.
3. Deduplication status
If you run both the pixel and CAPI (you should), this tells you whether Meta is correctly collapsing the two into one event. If deduplication breaks, you double-count conversions and inflate your numbers. See how to fix duplicate events.
4. Missing or invalid parameters
Warnings that specific customer parameters aren't being sent, or are formatted wrong. These directly drag down your EMQ. Not every parameter warning is urgent, but a new one appearing after a site change is worth investigating.
5. Pixel/dataset activity status
Whether the data source is active and healthy overall. An “inactive” or error state here is a red flag that the pixel isn't working — see the pixel troubleshooting checklist.
What to ignore
Plenty of Events Manager notices are informational or apply to features you don't use. The five above are the ones tied to whether your tracking actually works. If you only monitor these, you'll catch the real problems without drowning in noise.
The catch: you have to keep looking
These diagnostics are only useful if someone checks them — regularly, across every account. That's the hard part, and it's why breaks go unnoticed. Taglertwatches the signals that matter — pixel activity, EMQ, and duplicate rate — on every connected account every 30 minutes, and alerts you when any of them go wrong. It's Events Manager's five key diagnostics, checked for you around the clock. See also monitoring across many client accounts.
